EASY 4 INGREDIENT LOTION BARS
by ahomemadefromscratch.com
WHAT IS A LOTION BAR?
A lotion bar is essentially lotion that is infused with beeswax to a hardened state which melts and moisturizes when friction and body heat are applied. I find these easier to use and more moisturizing than regular lotion. Did you know many of the store bought ones contain drying agents, like alcohol (why have a lotion that dries out your skin?!? hmmmm…). Also, no plastic packaging!!! Store them in a mason jar or container of your choosing.
MAKE YOUR OWN QUALITY LOTION BARS
If you want easy, homemade items that are good for your body, these lotion bars are a great part of your homespa. I use them a lot in the winter and they are very good for my dry fingers, hands and elbows.
You can use them all over and even in the shower. They are soft, luxurious and only have a few ingredients.
To make them, a double boiler is the best. But if you do not have one, no worries. I make mine in a glass bowl, above boiling water. You also need a silicone candy mold. People have made them with ice cube tray. Also, the small size of candies is convenient for use.
INGREDIENTS:
½ cup: Beeswax
½ cup: Shea Butter
⅛ to ¼ cup: Coconut Oil (sweet almond oil, avocado oil, or even olive oil)
15-20 drops: Essential Oil (scent of your choosing)
DIRECTIONS:
Measure all of the ingredients (except essential oils) into a bowl or double boiler
Put water in another pan or second part of double boiler (about 2 cups, depending on the size of the pan)
Turn on low
Stir constantly until all parts have melted
Remove from heat, add essential oils
Pour into silicon mold (local folks: you can find these at Butternut's!)
Wait a few hours to cool and harden before removing
